Today my brother-in-law forwarded me link to a video of Red Skelton speaking on the Pledge of Allegiance. It can be viewed in many different locations. Here is one link:
I had seen the video previously, but as I watched it anew, I was again touched by its message. I was in Vietnam on January 14, 1969 when it was broadcast on the Red Skelton Show. Watching it now, I saw it representing a stark delineation between two worlds — traditional Americanism, and whatever you want to call society now.
One thing I have learned from studying the Bible is that God, through Moses, told the people to teach their children his instructions to them. It’s very simple. One generation directly inculcates their values to the next generation by telling their children. But people are by nature rebellious. The Hebrews didn’t teach their children about God’s instructions. For centuries they didn’t even celebrate Passover! Eventually (after God had given them plenty of time to clean up their act) they suffered the judgement of God. Foreign kings conquered them, destroyed their cities, took their wealth and uprooted entire populations, relocating them in distant lands, to subsist in poverty.
History repeats itself, and in America more kids are taught to respect LGTB lifestyles than respect what the Bible teaches. Increasingly, for the last few decades, kids now are being taught the lie that Christianity is bigoted, that our white-dominated history is racist, and that in spite of belief in the God of the Bible, in spite of the narrow-minded exclusivity of our Constitution, our nation has progressed because of the pragmatic and compassionate principles of organized labor, socialist doctrines and “progressive” thinking. More and more parents leave their child-rearing up to the public schools. And those who insist on teaching their own children their own values end up fighting government authorities, all the way.
What the children of each new generation are being taught is designed to undermine our historical values. Because “We The People” have failed to teach our children what they should know, THEY DON’T KNOW IT. Instead, they are being taught a whole new set of values, based on lies. The difference is that a new culture is emerging. And our “old” culture isn’t protected by multiculturalism, either. Because, like all the other lies, multiculturalism respects all cultures except for our Traditional American Culture. That’s one reason I love Michael Savage, the champion of “Borders, Language and Culture”.
There is a very tired idea that is kicked around, that the “silent majority” of Americans still believe in “traditional values” and that it’s only a small minority of extremists who are busily trying to ruin our country. I think this is just self-delusion. When a person believes in something, they act accordingly. The majority of Americans haven’t been taking any action at all. They’ve had more than enough time to act on their beliefs. They just moan and groan about the way things are, while expecting someone else to do something about it. And when they see others acting on their beliefs — at such places as town hall meetings and Tea Party rallies — they allow the media to portray them no better than Nazis. Our society is suffering from an epidemic of complacency, brought on by petty selfishness and made worse by the complications of ignorance.
President Obama came to office promising “change”. But, as we have seen, his “changes” are being done to us, not for us. Unless the so-called silent majority of We the People makes a sea change, in terms of their own personal political involvements, we will find ourselves enslaved by these changes. If we truly believe we are “One nation under God”, If we truly believe the motto, “In God We Trust”, we must be obedient to God’s teachings. Obedience means hard work, performed by regular human beings, not sitting around waiting for some super hero to save the day. That’s called self-reliance, just another dying characteristic of our “old” and dying culture.
Red Skelton always ended his show with the words, “God bless.” Similarly, Dr. Laura ended her broadcasts by saying, “Now, go do the right thing.” God won’t bless us unless we are obedient to his teachings. And unless the great majority of Americans do just that, we can kiss our “One Nation Under God” good-bye.
